Multifaceted impact of Israel’s wars on the world economy

In diplomatic talks between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Blinken emphasized that the United States remains committed to its alliance with Israel and is not retreating from the region. This statement aims to emphasize the ongoing support that the U.S. will provide to Israel.

On the other hand, the war has its adverse impact on global economy. It could impact the crude oil price in a big way. The impact of Israel’s wars on the world economy can vary depending on the nature, duration, and severity of each conflict. Here are some potential factors to consider:

1. Oil prices: As Israel is located in a region that is vital for global oil production and transportation, conflicts in the area can disrupt oil supply chains and lead to price fluctuations. Any disruption in the global oil market can have a significant impact on the world economy, potentially affecting production costs, transportation expenses, and inflation rates.

2. Financial markets: Geopolitical tensions, including conflicts involving Israel, can create uncertainty in financial markets. Investors may become cautious, leading to increased volatility and potential declines in stock markets, currency values, and capital flows. This uncertainty can affect both local and international investment, including foreign direct investment (FDI) and portfolio investments.

3. Regional trade and stability: Protracted conflicts can hamper economic cooperation and trade not only between Israel and its neighbors but also within the broader region. Uncertainty and security concerns can disrupt supply chains, decrease tourism, and deter foreign investment. This can negatively impact economic growth and development, not only in the directly affected countries but also in neighbouring states, which may rely on regional trade and stability.

4. Military spending: Wars and conflicts, including those involving Israel, often lead to increased military expenditures. Governments allocate larger parts of their budgets to defence, which can divert resources away from social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and other productive sectors of the economy. This may result in decreased public investment and long-term economic challenges.

5. Humanitarian aid: In the aftermath of wars, humanitarian aid from the international community is frequently necessary to support affected populations. This aid comprises financial assistance, medical supplies, food, and other resources to help rebuild infrastructure and stabilize affected regions. The provision of humanitarian aid can impact the budgets of donor countries, as well as global aid efforts and organizations.

Overall, the impact of Israel’s wars on the world economy is complex and multifaceted. It depends on various factors, including how long the conflicts last, their intensity, the involvement of other countries, and the broader geopolitical environment. It is worth noting that conflicts in the region have historically had adverse effects on regional and global economies.

Israel-Palestine: A Complex Relation

The longstanding enmity between Israel and Palestine is a complex issue with multiple underlying causes. Here are some of the key factors that contribute to the conflict:

1. Historical and territorial claims: Both Israelis and Palestinians lay claim to the same land, specifically the territory historically known as Palestine, which includes present-day Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip. Both communities have deep historical and religious connections to this land, and this dispute has fueled the conflict.

2. Zionist movement and establishment of Israel: The Zionist movement emerged in the late 19th century, seeking to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine due to historical ties and as a response to rising anti-Semitism in Europe. Following World War II and the Holocaust, the international community, through the United Nations, partitioned Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states, leading to the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The creation of Israel resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, leading to their ongoing struggle for recognition, justice, and statehood.

3. Arab-Israeli wars and conflicts: The Arab-Israeli wars, especially the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, 1967 Six-Day War, and 1973 Yom Kippur War, have added to the animosity between Israelis and Palestinians. These conflicts led to territorial changes, Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the displacement of additional Palestinian populations.

4. Israeli settlements and occupied territories: Israel’s policy of establishing settlements in the occupied territories, such as the West Bank and East Jerusalem, continues to be a major point of contention. Palestinians view these settlements as illegal under international law and obstacles to the establishment of a contiguous Palestinian state. The expansion and growth of settlements have been ongoing hurdles to peace negotiations.

5. Palestinian nationalism and resistance: Palestinians have also struggled for their national rights, self-determination, and statehood. Various protests, uprisings, and resistance movements, such as the First and Second Intifadas, have emerged in response to the Israeli occupation and perceived lack of progress towards a resolution.

6. Control of Jerusalem: Jerusalem holds immense religious, cultural, and symbolic significance for both Israelis and Palestinians. The dispute over the control and sovereignty of Jerusalem, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the Western Wall, amplifies tensions and complicates peace efforts.

It is important to note that the conflict is multifaceted and involves a combination of historical, political, territorial, and religious factors. Resolving this complicated dispute will require comprehensive dialogue, mutual recognition, compromise, and the recognition of rights and security concerns from both sides.

Sarees – Elegance to Wear!

Saree is considered to be the most elegant attire for women in India. It could perhaps be the only oldest dress that is not worn but draped around. The length of the fabric is something between 5 to 9 yards. In India, women for ages wore sarees; today with changing times the way of draping has also changed.

Traditionally it is draped around combined with a figure hugging blouse and a petticoat. Simply search online for best deals on sarees, blouse and petticoat. Blouse is a garment that is worn in the upper part complete with sleeves. Blouse is often made of stretchable fabric, so that it can be carried easily as is often stitched to give a tight fit. Stretchable fabric makes it easy for the body to maneuver with ease and comfort.  Petticoat is a long skirt worn below waist as usually a skirt is worn.   One end of the saree is tucked on to the petticoat and draped around with a bunch of pleats. The pleats should fall in the middle just below the naval. Well done pleats add to the grace of saree and of course enhance the personality as well! Finally the other end is brought in the front and hung onto the shoulders (either of the shoulder).

Since saree comes in a long running single piece of fabric, it looks beautiful. The fabric could be silk, cotton, Georgette, chiffon etc; it comes in different colors and prints. You can wear it to suit any occasion.

Hyundai Goes Online

For many of its range of cars Hyundai has come up with not so novel idea of selling online. Being online helps even the least known reach a wider customer base. Prospective buyers can get maximum information about price and model. It is indeed a good decision; it is not necessary that the salesman at the showroom may have answers to all your queries.

This could very well be linked to Prime Minister Mr Narender Modi’s initiative on making India a digital economy. It is evident that more may follow the decision. While you buy car accessories and other goodies online, it’s time you pick your favourite Hyundai model online too!

Reading for Entertainment and Enlightenment

Young children getting addicted to internet and high end mobile phones are the main two culprits giving rise to lack of interest in book reading. We read to relax our mind, get exposed to an outer world, improve vocabulary and are a favourite pass-time for many. In today’s world of easily accessible entertainment through internet, who would be interested in reading Harry Potter, when you have access to visual documentaries or movies on Harry Potter.

Catchy quotes that appear in leading websites like Amazon quotes: “Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter ‘H’.”A lot more also depends upon how one markets the idea to inculcate reading in youngsters. Websites largely popular such as ‘Amazon’ do so.

Reading habit shapes personality, it keeps one in a different league altogether. Great minds like Karl Max, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi were all accomplished leaders. Reading doesn’t come to all naturally. Some gets into the habit to impress peers and some simply gets motivated accidentally. On the other hand reading is literally a culture wherein all family members get to the habit as reading being a family trait.

Reading gives exposure to different scenarios, introduces the reader to different characters, makes the reader familiar with things, plots and features that one otherwise may not even imagine. Get introduced to writers like Sudha Murthy, Chetan Bhagat, Prem Chand, Ruskin Bond among others. Reading habit is such a trait that once imbibed, it stays with you forever. Remember it shapes your thoughts and make you leap into another world of pure entertainment and enlightenment!

Chattanooga – Oh! Not Again!

In the wake of Chattanooga shootings, Tomi Lahren has criticized President Obama for “half-way, half-baked, tip-toe, be-friendly-to-jihadis mentality.” Tomi represents the One American News Network as an anchor. The outburst was probably to highlight the President’s understanding in addressing the issue.

Is this still an act carried out by a disturbed mind or has it been an organized crime against humanity? If one calls this a planned action, rather than an act committed in the heat of the moment how justified is it to term the incident as just another act of violence. What stops us from terming it as an act of terrorism?

Mohammad Abdulazeez, the 24 year old accused is being referred to as a devout Muslim. This is perplexing, if he is devout enough then who is not? The ones who are not killing? Now how do we define a civil thinking that can combat such acts?

Do we need more of violence to think in an un-civilized manner?

Civil society maintaining a low profile may reflect a soft corner towards such cowardly acts. However we all need the interventions from civil society and not Gods to transform things, may be! Probably now is the time that debate should stop!
